The Jihad of NATO

There were some voices over the last two days in the west that were concerned of whether the operation Odyssey Dawn will be viewed as another attack on an Islamic country. Specifically in the US, there seems to be fear of being viewed as launching a third war in the Muslim world. Of course, the Gaddafi picked up on this, and started propagating that this is a crusade against the Libyan people, when in fact the closest thing to crusade would be what his forces where doing to the civilian Libyan people.

I am writing this to make it clear to everyone, that myself and many of my Muslim and Arab peers are not only supportive of the efforts of the NATO forces in Libya, but are also appreciative of these efforts.

Furthermore, I would go as far as to say that the forces of The United States of America, France, Italy, The United Kingdom, Canada, and Qatar are behaving according to the teachings of Quran, and are representing the purist form of Islamic Jihad in their military efforts to defend Libyan civilians and overthrow the Gaddafi regime.

First of all, the Quran says “And if two parties of believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them. And if one party of them doeth wrong to the other, fight ye that which doeth wrong till it return unto the ordinance of Allah; then, if it return, make peace between them justly, and act equitably. Lo! Allah loveth the equitable. (49-9)” So it is not only allowed, but it is even encouraged to ‘fight that which doeth wrong’ if it doesn’t listen to the voice of reason, which was exactly what the international community tried to do. First they tried to ‘make peace’ between them, but Gaddafi didn’t want that, so the NATO is working according to the teachings of Quran in their military operations in Libya.

Now this ruling is more applicable to circumstances when two equally equipped groups are fighting each other, but apparently what is happening in Libya is not that bright. Because the rebels do not have the same military power as Gaddafi forces have, most of them are not even armed, are civilian people, who have never held a gun in their hands before. So, there is another more specific ruling In the Holy Quran that is encouraging to fight for the sake of defenseless people.

“How should ye not fight for the cause of Allah and of the feeble among men and of the women and the children who are crying: Our Lord! Bring us forth from out this town of which the people are oppressors! Oh, give us from thy presence some protecting friend! Oh, give us from Thy presence some defender! (4-75)”

So this is a clear encouragement to fight for the weak people who are being oppressed or subjected to tyranny and injustice, and this is a tailor-made order for the situation we are witnessing in Libya.

In light of the above, there should not be any doubt in the legitimacy of what the NATO forces are doing in Libya. Gaddafi and his propaganda channel should not delude the western leaders or the western viewers that there might be any reasonable explanation why the noble cause of operation Odyssey Dawn could be miss viewed in the eyes of Muslims or Islam. There should not also be any doubt, though there is no indication of the existence of such doubt, that any sane Muslim is not at least grateful for what the allies are doing now in Libya. The forces of NATO are conducting Jihad in Libya, there is no question about this fact whatsoever, nor any question about how thankful we are to their effort.

Two more quick points before I wrap up. The first is that I hope this will also familiarize people in the west with the noble and true concept of Jihad that has been confused for so long and tarnished with the terrorist attacks. Jihad is a noble practice that even western nations practice in the level of government and individuals. Secondly, and I guess lastly, Hugo Chavez, I never believed you were a jerk until now.
